ECO-Resort in Upstate New York |

Nestled between thousands of acres of State land, just outside the college town of Alfred NY is the Eco-Resort of Pollywogg Holler. " An ECO-resort means that the buildings, the people and the business all are in harmony with the environment that hosts them," Bill Castle, one of the owners explains, adding that " While Barb and I do our best to ensure their guests comfort, it's really nature that takes care of them."
The Castles are currently building an Adirondack lean-to near a small pond on their premises. Using only hand tools and an old fashioned ax, Bill is cutting the timber for this new structure himself from the woods that surround him. Only the standing dead trees are being harvested. "Not only does it offer more respect to the web of life around us but the fact that it's already dry makes it a whole lot easier for us to carry it out by hand."
Over the years Bill and apprentices have built a number of presentable lodges; A wood fired Sauna, a little place called the "Love shack", a striking main cabin, names just a few. "From My perspective bio regionalism made sense way before I heard that Phrase," says Bill. "Why build with materials that you have to carry all that way when there are options all around you? " Bio-Regionalism is the philosophy of using and consuming only that which exists naturally within a local environment.
