Taxi! |
If you hail a taxi in London you might be in for an unexpectedly quiet ride - that is if you are lucky enough to get the first new Diesel Electric Hybrid.
Developed by Azure Dynamics in Toronto and London Taxis International, it is hoped the new taxi will cut inner city pollution with projected fuel savings of 35 per cent and emissions reduction of up to 90 per cent. The taxi automatically runs in the most economic way, automatically switching to electric mode at low speeds. With the support of the Energy Saving Trust and the Department of Transport, LTI hope to have the new taxi in production in 2006.
