Triodos Opens a Branch in Spain |

On 24 September Triodos bank launched its new telephone and Internet banking services in Spain. The presentation was attended by Peter Blom, who manages the bank's Europe-wide operations, and by Esteban Barroso, the General Manager for Spain. Attendees at the event received gifts of products marketed by some of the ethical businesses financed by Triodos in Spain.
Triodos was set up in 1980 and now has branches in the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom. The bank works within the financial system to bring about a positive change towards a more sustainable society, investing in innovative businesses and initiatives in fields such as renewable energies, environmental technology, micro-financing, sustainable tourism, art and culture.
Triodos Bank's activities in Spain began in 1999 through an investment arm and have now been consolidated by opening a branch and launching new products and services for individuals, companies and institutions. Investments have already been made in organic agriculture, fair trade and social integration initiatives, for which the bank has received a number of industry awards.
Individuals may choose to open an operating account, savings account, junior account, special house-buyers' savings account or deposit account, while companies are offered a full range of products and financing. At present, business is conducted through a telephone banking service, with Internet banking in the pipeline.
As Sandra Castañeda, Triodos Spain's Communications Director, told Noticias Positivas: "Saving and investing are not only ways of making your money work for you. They can also help to create a more sustainable society. Opening an account with Triodos is one way of saying that you want to help create a better world".
