First European Conference on Complementary Currencies |
A CD, Complementary Currencies in Europe, containing information on 23 European complementary currency projects from 11 countries has just been published. It is the first of its kind and presents a wide variety of different models of local and regional currencies, their ways of functioning and relevance to the present challenges of our society.
This extensive report from the conference, Complementary Currencies in Europe: their Significance to the Economy, Regional Development and the Labour Market has background articles and research as well as a list of books, websites, networks for those who want to know more. The CD has video clips from many of the movement's movers and shakers including Margrit Kennedy, Bernard Lietaer, Michael Linton, Joachim Sikora as well as contributions from Richard Douthwaite, Thomas Greco and John Rogers with other key advocates and practitioners of complementary currencies. It also presents examples from Argentina, USA and Japan, Senegal and South Africa.
As Professor Margrit Kennedy, author of Interest and Inflation Free Money, says: "Few people understand how money functions but if they did understand, we would have a quite different monetary system immediately one which would bring more social justice, with better opportunities for a healthy environment and with a higher stability of currencies."
The CD is mostly in English with sections in German and French and costs ten euros (fourteen dollars) for one copy and costs less per copy the more you buy.
