By Steve Gabriel
Everyone loves laughter, and one doctor in India has taken the concept to a new level. Dr. Kataria originated the idea of laughter clubs while writing an article on laughter in 1995. His initial research led him to discover an large body of scientific literature that described the proven benefits of laughter on the human mind and body. According to Kataria laughter is a positive and powerful emotion that has all the ingredients required for individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way. It is a universal language, which has the potential to unite humanity. Over a decade later there are more than 5000 clubs around the world that meet regularly and Kataria has a School for Laughter Yoga which organizes trainings and World Laughter Day every first Sunday in May, which drew over 100,000 people this year. The unique concept of this form is that anyone can laugh in a group for 15-20 minutes without depending upon great sense of humor, jokes or comedy. The practice combines simple laughter exercises and gentle yoga breathing with group laughter. The best time to have a laughing session is between 6 a.m. and 7a.m. "The advantage of laughing in the morning, is that 20 minutes of laughter keeps you in good spirits throughout the day. It energizes your body and charges you with happiness." Contact: Laughter Yoga Website: www.laughteryoga.org |
