Producer Pharrell Williams hugs Al Gore, with Cameron Diaz and Kevin Wall at the launch.
Former Vice-President and climate campaigner, Al Gore, has announced the launch of a series of global music events, planned to unite the world in preventing global warming.
Taking place over 24 hours on 7th June 2007, Live Earth's enormous concerts will span all seven continents and feature a host of big names from the music and entertainment business, including rock musicians The Red Hot Chili Peppers, rap artist Snoop Dog and film actress Cameron Diaz. Venues include London, Sydney, Shanghai and, there will also be a historic event in Antarctica. The concerts are planned to set a new Green Event Standard, demonstrating how eco-friendly, green entertainment could be staged in the future. Working with Kevin Wall, organizer behind the Make Poverty History concerts in 2005, Al Gore will use these events to promote and launch SOS - The Save Our Selves campaign and help humanity combat the climate crisis. Speaking at the campaign's launch, held in California, Cameron Diaz said: "This is the only issue in the history of mankind that will affect every single person on the planet - no matter who you are." The SOS campaign is set to achieve unprecedented amounts of media coverage, as partner organizations include MSN and the event will be streamed live online, on radio and via television, in 120 countries globally. In his speech at the launch event, Al Gore described SOS as a "mass persuasion campaign." Contact: www.liveearth.org Story from Positive News U.K. |
